What’s In a Name? Quite a bit actually… Modern day Guerneville was first settled in 1860 on the bank of the Russian River on an alluvial flat known as ‘Big Bottom’. In 1877 Big Bottom was described as ‘a dense growth of mammoth redwood trees’ with a yield of 800,000 feet of lumber to the acre. As we began researching what to call the market and began unearthing the history of Big Bottom we were drawn to the name. This unique, quirky and inspiring description of the area not only fits the historical nature of days gone by, but also the unique aspects and incredible environment of the market you are about to enter. Enjoy!
